Easy Installation:
The SMT150 can be installed on both new and existing pool systems using standard 40mm and 50mm pressure pipes, eliminating the need for additional filtration equipment. A clear cell case allows for simple inspection of electrode plates.
Note on Maintenance:
This model is a standard chlorinator and does not feature reverse polarity self-cleaning. Regular manual cell inspections and cleaning are recommended to prevent calcium buildup and maintain efficiency.
Chlorine Output:
33 grams per hour of chlorine (equivalent to 33g/h of pure chlorine gas). This output is automatically generated while the pump is running, keeping your pool continuously sanitized.
Recommended Pool Size:
Suitable for pools up to 120,000 liters in volume (≈120 m³ of water). (This is based on temperate climate usage; larger models are available for bigger or high-demand pools.)
Self-Cleaning Function:
No – This model does not feature a reverse polarity self-cleaning cell. Regular manual inspection and cleaning are recommended to prevent calcium buildup.
Salt Requirement:
Uses ~0.4–0.6% salinity in the pool. Ideal salt level ~5000 ppm, with a minimum of 4000 ppm required for operation. (For reference, seawater is ~35,000 ppm salt – a Saltmate pool is only about one-eighth as salty.) Once added, salt is reused continuously; you only top up salt to replace losses due to splash-out, backwashing, or heavy rain.
Power Supply:
220–240 VAC, 50 Hz single-phase (standard mains power). The power pack has an internal 3 Amp circuit breaker for overload protection. (Power Input: 240V AC / Output to cell: low-voltage DC. Max pump load 8A – only connect one pump to the chlorinator’s outlet.)
Pump Timer Control:
Integrated timer controls both the chlorinator and the filtration pump together. Modes include Auto (runs on programmed schedule), Manual On, or Off. An optional battery backup (Lithium CR2032) preserves the clock and programs during power loss.
Plumbing Requirements:
Fits into standard pool plumbing with 40mm or 50mm PVC pipes (adapters included as needed). The cell assembly is installed in-line on the return-to-pool line and is recommended to be installed horizontally for optimal gas trapping.
Included Components:
The Saltmate 150 Chlorinator SMT150 includes the wall-mountable Power Pack (control module), the Salt Cell and its transparent housing (electrode assembly), a mounting bracket, and an instruction manual. All necessary power leads and cell cables are provided for installation. Power Pack housing is IP34 rated (rain and splash proof) for outdoor installation.
Controls & Indicators:
The front panel features an adjustable chlorine output knob (percentage control), a chlorine output/salt level analog indicator gauge, a “No Flow” safety LED, a “Cell On” LED, and a 3A resettable circuit breaker switch. There are also toggle switches for Pump (Auto/Manual/Off) and Cell (On/Off) for easy operation as needed.
Pool Compatibility:
Designed for both new installations and retrofits on existing pool systems – no special fittings or alterations to your pump/filter needed. Suitable for use in saltwater or mineral pools alike. (Not intended for sea water use, although the unit can technically handle very high salt levels if required.)
Warranty:
Backed by Saltmate’s 5-Year warranty program – 2 years full warranty on the power pack and cell, plus an additional 3-year pro-rata warranty on the cell electrodes. This comprehensive warranty reflects the unit’s high quality.
Effortless Maintenance:
The SMT150 simplifies pool care by automating chlorine generation from salt, eliminating the need for manual chemical dosing. With an intuitive timer and adjustable chlorine control, you can easily “set and forget” your pool sanitation, reducing ongoing maintenance tasks and freeing up your time.
Cost-Effective Operation:
By converting inexpensive salt into chlorine, the SMT150 significantly reduces the recurring costs associated with traditional chlorine treatments. The efficient cell design minimizes energy consumption and chemical waste, offering long-term savings while maintaining optimal water quality.
Superior Water Quality:
Enjoy crystal clear, soft, and safe pool water. The controlled and consistent chlorine production helps maintain ideal sanitizer levels, reducing fluctuations that can lead to skin irritation or eye discomfort. Whether using standard or mineral salt blends, the SMT150 delivers a balanced, gentle chlorination process that enhances the overall swimming experience.
Robust Durability and Reliability:
Designed and constructed in Australia, the SMT150 features a rugged, IP34-rated weather-resistant casing built to withstand harsh outdoor conditions. Its high-quality materials and solid construction ensure reliable performance season after season, even in demanding climates.
User-Friendly Design:
The sleek display and straightforward controls make it easy for pool owners to monitor and adjust settings. The clear cell housing allows for simple visual inspections, ensuring that any required maintenance can be performed quickly and effectively.
Enhanced Safety Features:
Built-in oversalt and overload protection, along with a resettable circuit breaker and flow-sensitive switch, safeguard the system against potential damage and operational errors. These features provide peace of mind and ensure that the chlorinator operates safely under all conditions.
The Saltmate SMT150 operates via the process of saltwater electrolysis. When a small amount of salt is dissolved in the pool water, a low-voltage DC current passes through the electrolytic cell’s parallel plates. This current converts chloride ions into chlorine gas, which immediately dissolves to form free chlorine—the active sanitizer that keeps your pool water clean. The continuously generated chlorine ensures effective disinfection while the system recycles salt, reducing the need for manual chemical additions.
Site & Power Pack Placement:
Mount the power pack in a well-ventilated, sheltered area near your pool’s pump and filtration system. It should be installed at least 1–1.5 meters above ground level and connected to a dedicated 240V outlet with a 3A circuit breaker.
Plumbing Integration:
The electrolytic cell is installed as the final component in your pool’s plumbing—after the filter and other equipment—ensuring efficient chlorine distribution. Use standard 40mm/50mm pipes (or appropriate adapters) to secure leak-free connections. The cell should be installed horizontally to ensure proper gas trapping and full submersion during operation.
Electrical Connections:
Connect the cell’s lead cable to the junction box on the underside of the power pack, ensuring correct color matching as per the wiring diagram. Secure the junction box cover to protect the electrical contacts.
Routine Water Testing:
Salt Levels: Maintain between 4000–6000ppm (ideally 5000ppm). Consistently low levels can impact chlorine production, even though the system is over-salt protected.
pH & Alkalinity: Keep pH between 7.2–7.6 and total alkalinity within 80–120ppm to ensure optimal chlorine efficacy and minimize scale formation.
Free Chlorine: Aim for 1.5–3.0ppm; adjust chlorine control or runtime if levels fall outside this range.
Cell Inspection:
Since the SMT150 is a standard chlorinator without reverse polarity self-cleaning, inspect the cell regularly (typically weekly during initial use) for calcium buildup. The clear cell housing allows you to check the electrode plates easily.
Manual Cleaning:
If significant scale deposits are observed, turn off the system, remove the cell, and soak the electrodes in a recommended cell cleaner solution for 5–10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and reassemble, applying a silicone-based lubricant to the O-ring to ensure a tight seal.
Timer Adjustments:
Use the timer to set an appropriate operating schedule based on pool usage and ambient temperature. In high-use or hot weather, longer runtimes may be required, whereas reduced operation is suitable during cooler periods.
Safety Checks:
Regularly verify that all electrical connections, wiring, and mounting fixtures remain secure. Ensure that the flow-sensitive switch is functioning properly by checking for uninterrupted water circulation through the system.
The Saltmate 150 Chlorinator SMT150 is backed by a comprehensive 5-Year Manufacturer Warranty:
2 Years Full Warranty: Covers the power pack and electrolytic cell for any defects in materials or workmanship.
